How stamped concrete is made
The crew pours and levels the slab, adds color (mixed in, broadcast on top, or both), and presses large textured mats into the surface while it's still workable. After it cures, joints are cut and the surface is cleaned and sealed. Timing matters, so stamping is skilled work. Ask to see photos of past jobs.
Where it's used around Ocala homes
- Back patios and outdoor living areas.
- Front walkways and entries.
- Driveway borders or full stamped driveways.
- Pool decks, with a textured pattern and suitable sealer for traction.
Patterns and colors
Common choices include ashlar slate, random stone, cobblestone, European fan and wood plank. Many people use a main color with a darker release color to bring out the texture. A border in a contrasting pattern can frame the space. Ask for color samples, since Florida sun changes how colors look.
Upkeep
- Sealer. Most stamped concrete is resealed every few years. Sealer protects color and can be slippery when wet, so ask about anti-slip additives, especially near pools.
- Cleaning. Mildew and algae grow in our humidity. Gentle washing keeps it looking good.
- Cracks. Stamped concrete can crack like any slab. Good joints hide most of it in the pattern.
Cost
Stamped concrete usually costs noticeably more than plain broom finish because of extra labor, color and sealer. See our cost guide for rough estimates, and concrete vs pavers if you're comparing.
Protect yourself
Ask any contractor for proof of general liability and workers' compensation insurance, a written quote that lists thickness, square footage, finish and what is included, and who pulls any permit. Check the contractor's license status on the Florida DBPR site or with Marion County. Don't pay the full price before the work is done.
